2026 Oceans Treble Update for Penguin Island Swim

Ah, the vagaries of ocean swimming!After a picture-perfect Saturday on the North-West Coast, Sunday decided to keep us on our toes. Dark skies rolled in, followed by dramatic lightning and thunder ( very, very frightening ), and some earnest negotiations with the weather gods ensued. We waited… and waited… and waited some more.Decision made — down to the beach! A very long walk to the water, and once there we were greeted by a fierce squall and a sudden temperature drop that briefly prompted some “are we sure about this?” moments.Not a huge MST turnout on the start line this time, with a few members mysteriously MIA and others happily embracing their new roles as enthusiastic supporters. Then it was ON — a fast sprint to a very distant buoy, followed by a surprise appearance from… sea mist? sea fog? a mysterious grey fuzz? Visibility dropped to somewhere between “not far” and “where did everyone go?” Challenges aside, the swim more than delivered: clear, warm, calm water, outstanding support from the water safety crews, and — as always — superb organisation by Port Sorell Surf Life Saving Club. Four swims done, one epic showdown to go… and right now the Hobart Dolphins have a pretty firm grip on the Club Trophy 🐬💪

But with one swim left, anything can happen!

Great to see new Devonport Devils making waves at Port Sorell 👋🔥— fresh faces, fresh points, fresh pressure.

Add in strong racing, tight battles, and 7 clubs flying their colours, and this Treble is delivering exactly what we love.
