2024 Oatlands Splash – REPORT
MST hosted the 3rd Christmas Friendly meet at the Oatlands Aquatic Centre with 50 swimmers.
It was a first time swim for some who practiced their swimming skills without the pressures of a championship meet.
The most exciting race was the handicap mixed medley relay with Launceston taking out the prize.
Best time closest to nominated went to James Belstead in the 50m Butterfly.
There were lucky lane prizes for every heat and some wonderful raffles with money raised ($135) to be donated to the ABC Giving Tree.
When the swimming was over, people got into the spirit donning their best Christmas gear with Huon Valley taking out the team prize and Fiona Redgrove THB winning the best dressed individual with a rather risqué red outfit edged in ‘swan’s’ down which she picked up at an exclusive boutique in Kingston.
We all adjourned to the courtyard where Chef Ken was busy cooking a gourmet meal of sausages and onions on the BBQ.
Thanks to everyone who brought along such a wonderful selection of yummies to share, and thanks also to the lifeguards at the Oatlands Aquatic Centre.
A post on the Devonport Devils Facebook page:
What a cheery time we had at the Oatlands Friendly Christmas Meet! Filled with Xmas cheer, fabulous swims, and great camaraderie, it was hands down the funniest meet I’ve ever been to. From a handicapped relay race to lucky lane prizes – what a fun way to race!
Huge thanks to all the dedicated swimmers, volunteers and participating devils.
We’ll definitely be back to support this one again in 2025!
