MST Coaches Upskilling at Expert Workshops.

Recent months have seen a marked increase in Tasmania in the number of coaches gaining their Club Coach accreditation, Session Leader qualifications or renewing their qualifications. Over the weekend of 18/19 November many of these coaches and swimmers enjoyed a weekend of learning and upskilling from the experience and expertise of two visiting coaches – Anne Smyth, MSNSW Branch Coaching Director, MSA Coach of the Year 2014, and Greg Gourley, MSA Coach of the Year 2019/2020. Two workshops were conducted at the Friends Health and Fitness Pool.

This activity was supported by MST’s Coach Development funding and fulfilled our Strategic Objective 1: To deliver a range of high-quality training programs to support our clubs, coaches, volunteers and members.

Saturday’s session covered Freestyle Drill Progressions, with instruction on Stroke Filming and analysis, during which we all had the opportunity to see ourselves as others see us – but on the big screen!

On Sunday we learnt excellent ideas and drills to advance Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly. Again, this provided a wonderful opportunity for coaches to assist their swimmers in improving technique in all formstrokes.

And apart from all else – it was fun!
